DR. SARAH SLAUGHTER

FOUNDER AND CEO/PRESIDENT, BUILT ENVIRONMENT COALITION

Dr. Sarah Slaughter is the founder and CEO/President of the Built Environment Coalition, a research and education nonprofit (501c3) focused on community sustainability and resilience. She is a subject-matter-expert on community infrastructure resilience, and currently advises several federal agencies on strategies for improving resilience. Previously, Dr. Slaughter was a Visiting Lecturer in the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning, was the Associate Director for Buildings and Infrastructure in the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), and co-founder and faculty head of the Sustainability Initiative in the MIT Sloan School of Management. Earlier, Dr. Slaughter founded and was CEO of MOCA Systems, Inc., a software-enabled construction program management company. Before founding MOCA, Dr. Slaughter was a professor in the MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and previously was a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Lehigh University.

Dr. Slaughter is currently a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and the National Academy of Construction. She currently serves on several NAE committees, as well as the US General Services Administration’s Green Building Advisory Committee (GBAC), and the Board of Directors for the Charles River Watershed Association. She previously served on the National Research Council Committee on Sustainable Critical Infrastructure Systems, the Massachusetts Sustainable Water Management Advisory Board, and additional national and international advisory committees. She received her Doctoral, Masters, and Bachelor’s degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
