Over 100 applicants!

It was a great joy coming to work this sunny Monday morning as the weekend have seen an incredible inflow of applications to the Nordic Cleantech Open. Already last week applications were pouring in but the weekend by far surpassed our highest expectations. We have not yet come up with the final number but we know for a fact that there are more than 100 applicants. This is more than any previous editions of the competition. Also the quality of the applicants looks very high at a first glance. More updates later on.

Corporate Cleantech Venture Day and Country event in Estonia

We are just home from Corporate Cleantech Venture Day in Lahti. This was a truly great event and no less than 7 applicants to the Nordic Cleantech Open pitched their companies to the investors in the audience. Participating NCO companies were SootTech, Knycer, Ecofective and Optistring from Sweden, Resen Waves and Alpha-E from Denmark and IoT Technologies from Estonia. In addition there were also two alumni finalists from previous editions of the Nordic Cleantech Open on stage, these were Finnish companies Zenrobotics and Enevo.

We rounded of the week with a Nordic Cleantech Open country event in Tallinn. At both events we met up with plenty of Finnish and Estonian companies all eager to join the Nordic Cleantech Open challenge. What can we say, the more the merrier!

Nordic Cleantech Open

Cleantech Scandinavia announces that the third edition of the start up competition Nordic Cleantech Open (NCO) is being launched today. It is the competition that upgrades and accelerates start up companies and puts the participants in front of the right people.

The program for this edition is ambitious and will include:

  • A Nordic Camp in Lahti, Finland. The competing companies will be supported in their development by especially invited investors and industrials.
  • Participation at the Corporate Cleantech Venture Day in Lahti, November 20th, 2013. The event focuses on the industry applications of cleantech solutions.
  • A Nordic Cleantech Showcase in Paris, France. France has emerged as a leading European nation when it comes to new cleantech oriented venture funds.
  • A grand final event in Stockholm in May 2014

The jury will, as previously, consist of more than 50 investors and influential industry representatives from multinational companies. This jury will select the top 25 companies.

Our competition is different as we do not primarily focus on selecting one single winner. Our competition provides value for all applicants and most of all we provide value for our top 25 companies. These companies all have solutions with huge potential and we provide the tools and contacts necessary to reach this potential. Our jury, consisting of investors, industrials and other decision makers, are central both in selecting and supporting the companies

Lars is one of the leading researchers in nano-science in the world. He is an innovative visionary that has not only created a world-class Nano-competence centre in Lund as a research platform for new materials, but also managed to realize his visions in creating game-changing cleantech companies like Glo and Sol Voltaics.

Glo develops and commercialises nanowire light emitting diodes (LEDs) for illumination markets in Sweden and internationally. The company has been successful in attracting international venture capital and established an engineering centre in Silicon Valley, but is still connected to the research environment in Lund.

Sol Voltaics AB introduces a new type technology that can produce materials for solar cells that generates a higher efficiency with an attractive low cost for customers. Sol Voltaics will be in Malmö these days at Cleantech Venture Day to meet with international investors in search of capital to build a factory for large-scale production.
