We’re proud to announce the 3 winners!

THE 3 WINNERS OF THE 10th NORDIC CLEANTECH OPEN ARE ANNOUNCED

It is our immense pleasure to announce the three winners of the 10th edition of the Nordic Cleantech open. For 10 years the Nordic Cleantech Open competition has served as an observation tower for the up and coming cleantech innovation trends that will support the transition to a low carbon reality.

The Top 10 companies pitched at Cleantech Capital Day which led to the selection of the three winners. This was the final stage of the 10th Edition of the Nordic Cleantech Open where 139 cleantech companies from the Nordics and Baltics competed. Big congratulations to all Top 10 Companies and to UP Catalyst for winning the 1st prize, NextFuel for taking the 2nd prize and Enerpoly for winning the 3rd place!

UP Catalyst is an Estonian based startup, which produces sustainable carbon nanomaterials directly from CO2 or from waste biomass for a vast range of applications ranging from green advanced battery technologies to biomedicine. UP Catalyst’s mission is to become the first and leading European industrial scale manufacturer of sustainable carbon nanomaterials and graphite thus providing a strong alternative to environmentally harmful materials used today.

NextFuel AB has developed a highly scalable new technology for converting fast growing grasses, and other types of crops, into a clean copy of coal. This new process starts by using CO2 rich energy crops like elephant grass or different forms of abundant agricultural/biomass waste, like bagasse from sugar cane, low quality wood or wood waste, as raw material. They are giving the world a clean alternative to burn.

Enerpoly is a next-generation energy storage technology company pioneering rechargeable zinc-ion battery chemistry. Enerpoly innovates in battery components, production methods, and designs, and employs agile research and development techniques to rapidly deliver batteries that are suitable for the grid, industrial, commercial, and residential uses.

This is why we produce the world’s first high performing positive electrode material made from completely renewable and low-cost materials.

1/3 of all food is wasted causing a massive carbon footprint and especially detrimental is wasting eatable meat and fish. Still much is thrown due to incorrect freshness and shelf-life estimations. AmiNIC is developing and commercializing  a handheld sensor, an intelligent e-nose, that within seconds determines the correct freshness and expiration dates of meat and fish.

Aquammodate is an impact-driven company founded in 2019 with the mission to accommodate the world’s need for clean water. Nature’s finest water purification is adapted for use in existing membrane separation processes through an ocean-inspired, proprietary stabilization technology spun out of Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. Their technology has the potential to mitigate clean water supply and wastewater issues in communities and industries across the globe.

CH-Bioforce Oy offers a sustainable and completely bio-based alternative to oil- and food-based feedstock when producing clothing, food packaging, or cosmetics for example. CH-Bioforce has developed a breakthrough biomass fractionation technology, which enables the full utilization of biomass, the side streams of industrial and agricultural production. This is the world’s only technology that is able to fractionate all constituents of the biomass in one process. The technology produces high-quality biopolymers: high-purity pulp, polymeric hemicellulose, and sulphur-free lignin. Each of these has a wide range of possible applications, especially in replacing fossil-based materials and less environmentally friendly bio-based products such as food-based starch or cotton.

We have developed a unique robotic 3D printing system that can automatically produce reinforced concrete structures faster, cheaper and safer than traditional construction methods as well as more sustainably by up-cycling waste materials from different industrial processes.

Kasi Tech is closing the current gap in the automotive market created by favorable legislative environment, lagging EV technology, uneven emission regulations, and market incentives for fuel reduction through to 2030. By introducing NESS, our retrofit solution reducing 20% CO2 emissions on 98% of all new- and existing vehicles in the global market, we are contributing to reaching both EU and UN ESG goals for coming 10 years period, facilitating the shift over to 100% climate neutral mobility.

Kvasir Technologies has developed a patented technology for production of biofuel. Kvasir Technologies are the only company, who through a simple process without use of catalysts can convert and liquify hard non-edible biomass (straw, wood, nutshells etc.) to a stable biofuel. Even the lignin content of the biomass can be converted through application of Kvasir’s technology. The resulting biooil can be used directly as a sustainable low sulfur marine fuel without modifications the vessels engine, fuelling system or tanks. By adopting Kvasir’s biofuel all existing ships can comply with the emissions reductions mandated by IMO in both 2030 and 2050.

Naco Technologies creates specialized nano-coatings and new materials that replace the need for platinum and other expensive materials in the production and usage of green hydrogen at a massive scale.

We have developing anode materials based on specific types of Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) which will increase battery capacity more than 5x times. For example, now the battery in smartphone must be charged almost every day, the same battery produced with our anode material will be charged once in a week. Our anode material can be used in all types of Energy storages like batteries for smart devices, electro cars and many others.
